Replacing evaporated pond water

Hello,
I am new to Koi. Have a house that has a built in pond in it, approx 2500 gal. No fish yet. However, about once a week, I notice that the ponds water level lowers about 2". I fill it with the hose. But - I know once I have fish in it - straight tap water is not good. My question is, what can I do once I have fish in it when it needs to be filled? It takes alot of water to top it off so using a bucket or even a trash can would take forever. Do I need to just test the water every time? Will that affect the health of the fish? Any help is appreciated. |

| I use Amquel+ when I top off or do a water change. I add the Amquel before I add the tap water. I do the same thing with the aquariums that I have in the house. Is this pond inside the house? Does it have a filter that can support a few koi? When you start to add fish, only add 1-2 at a time. This will give the filter a chance to to build enough bacteria to take care of the amonia. I would test the water every couple of days at first. Once your pond is established you can test less often. I test once a week, but some people test every day. Clarke |
