Germination Gel Experiment (using Cornflour/Cornstarch)

Hi guys I have just started my experiment and anyone that wants to follow me can. I will put an area on my site where you can post your pictures in regards to the experiment.

Day 1.

I created the gel using the following ingredients.

Cornflour (AKA cornstarch)
Hot Water

I made it into a fairly thick gel that I could stick to a wall but still soft enough to put a seed into.

I also did an Advocadoe and a Desert Rose.

Well that is all for Day 1.
I will report in Day 3.

I wont put the things up on my site just yet. I will wait until I have some interest here.

I would recommend gelatin or agar as your jell component. the cornstarch will eventually rot. Gelatin and agar are easier to manage and clear, so you will be able to detect rot more quickly

Hey there: Cornstarch can be very effective starting seeds. To do it right you should cook the cornstarch and water until the gel that forms is transparent(or close to it). If you go with the gelatin, reduce the amount of water by 1/4 to make a firmer material. I have used this method to get a head start on seeds such as beans that are very sensitive to temps. A coating of the cornstarch gel when planting supplys additional warmth as it deteriorates and prevents the seed from spoiling due to too low temps.- Sandy
