Artificial Outdoor Grass as Mulch Under Fruit Trees?

| We have a raised bed dwarf orchard and we are struggling to find the right mulch. Has anyone experimented with artificial outdoor grass cut to fit under a fruit tree or beneath berries? Water goes through easily, but I wonder if the artificial grass has chemicals in it that might leach into the beds and harm the trees or berries. Everything else we've tried has allowed field grass to grow through. The closest product I could think of are the rubberized circles of preformed mulch sold to put around trees, but I don't know if they are recommended only for non-fruiting trees. |

| I have used it between rows in the vegetable garden. It worked pretty much as you have conjectured except in the vegetable garden it tended to get mud on top of it from weeding and the like. |
