permanent heating cables for a greenhouse raised bed

| I am designing a greenhouse-and will be growing some citrus and subtropicals in there. I was probably going to use a 16' X 2.5' raised bed about 24" deep or so to plant the citrus trees in-and wanted to know if there is a soil heating cable that can warm that deep and long of a volume of soil and remain permanently in the soil-either buried right in the dirt or under the bed. Citrus roots need to stay at 65 or warmer and they will be cooler than that in the winer in the GH without some help. |

| I did some pricing on gutter cables last week. You can get up to 1,250 watts! If I were trying to protect tree roots, I'd bury the gutter cable and put alumized bubblewrap around the trunks of the trees to hold the heat in the soil during the winter... as well as find a thermostat to run the heating cable only when it's necessary. |

Hi. I am also in zone 6 and was wondering how you made out with your permanent soil heating cable search. I am going to build a raised bed inside a greenhouse in a couple weeks and was also thinking it would be great to be able to leave the cables in year round and also a little deeper than most cables I've seen. Thanks! |
