| Just wondering if I can plant gourd seeds in the straw bales? Maybe with some manure in the holes? I don't want the gourds in my veggie garden, but thought that if this would work it would be great! Thanks, Lauren |

| There is no reason why it should not. The advantage is that you know exactly where the source of the vine is in case you need to put on fertilizer or water. The only reservation I have is that soon there will be beneficial bacteria breaking down the straw. Those bacteria use up nitrogen and you may do well to watch for nitrogen deficiency in the vines. |
