I know that pears can be grown in bottles. They do this (in France I think) when making fancy liquors.

I do know I read an article yrs back on this in one of the more popular gardening mags ?
very funny I grew cantoluopes once and was supporting them on stuff and used a light fixture cover and a square of bricks and each grew into the square producing a 1/2 square melon lol.
I had to break the fixture to get it out .
I also worked for an orchard in n.h. who in yrs past had ripened apples in mason jars but they were able to wait until it was 1/2 ripe because the jar neck is lg.
They used them to with homeade apple brandy and cinnamon candies sealed in the jars.
would love to see if you have found more stuff by researching this further?

The only thing I really found was Square Watermelons. In japan they use glass sleeves, in Mississippi, they use cinderblocks. When I get some experiments growing I'll post some pics.
