Fiber Optic grass plant in the pond

I'm experimenting with fiber optic grass as a pond plant. I washed the soil off the roots and put it directly in the pond (a patio pond) on top of the rocks that are holding up some cat tails. So far it's looking real good. It only has to last until fall, when I have to empty the pond. It looks cute sitting in the water.

What do you mean? How could fiber optics have roots? Sounds interesting.

Hi Turningpoint, it's a bog and pond plant, also called Isolepis cernua. It just looks like fiber optic glass because of the little tips on the end of the stalks. It's still doing well, and has rooted itself into the rocks. It can be grown in the house too, as long as you keep it very well watered.

Isn't it strange how one persons weed is anothers flower?
I have Isolepsis in the french drain area of my pond and though it is pretty, Ive always considered it a nuisance.
Maybe I should bring a bit up to the fountain pond.
Good luck with yours G2G

RE: Fiber Optic grass plant in the pond

I was given a dried up pot of mostly annuals about a month ago.

I divided the contents into other pots etc. It was a very large pot initially

One plant I did not recognize though was the fiber optic grass plant.

I potted it on its own as it was not looking so well and didn't know just what to do with it

But I read it is a water type plant and have the pot sitting in water.
It is looking terrific and I could put it into my pond, but am thinking to just keep it as is and watch how it does

I wonder, if in Canada, I can keep it indoors over winter. What are the odds.

Will it go dormant or not

Guess we will see
