Home made slug baits.

I have a real problem with slugs this year so I am trying different concoctions in plastic cups as bait to try to get rid of some of them.
I tryed the slug dough. it had some results but not what i needed it to do.
So I am trying a new one. I pureed some lettuce parts, left from dinner. I added per quart of lettuce puree 2 tablepoon of sugar and 1 quart of water. ( it's pretty soupy)
for 5 different traps I added to the base bait for each different cup either
2 drops of lemon dish soap or,
1 teaspoon of salt or,
1 teaspoon corn meal or
or 1/2 teaspoon yeast
or nothing.
I will be checking the traps each morning.
So far the one with corn meal was the one left over night and I found 10 in it this morning. Looking for even better performance.

bassketcher -- try pouring a couple tablespoons of beer in shallow saucers, it's a lot easier and they love it. in they go, in they stay, blub, blub, bleah. every morning, voila, drowned slugs, healthy plants.

Have you tried putting coffee all around the area you want to protect? You will get good results from grounds, but maximum results from fresh. Cheapest you can find will protect for most of the season. Maybe even foliar feed instant to plant leaves. Maybe it would even be good for them- like humic/fulvic acids! It's thought that the caffeine is a neuro-toxin to slugs. It could also be one of the other stimulating chemicals in coffee, though. Justa thought. Good luck!
