Rose cuttings in a potatoe?

Posted by Debbie4 z7OK (My Page) on

I used to work at a greenhouse and a customer told me that he starts roses by sticking a cutting in a potatoe, then plants the potatoe...Has anyone tried this?

It's an interesting concept - and one I plan on trying (probably not with roses though)

Works well, especially with roses. Make sure you have a potato that will sprout. Some are treated these days to retard sprouting.

This is really interesting! How exactly is this done? Can I bore out a hole in the potato first and then put the rose cutting into it? What kind of treatment if any does the rose cutting need before putting it into the potato? The whole thing seems awfully simple. Thanks!
