Hi, I have a small yard and would like to contain my perenniels in the garden. If I plant them in a pot, bury the pot with the lip of the pot above ground will it work. thanks.

That should work. Make sure you have pots large enough or you might stunt their growth. Some people use that method for plants that are know to be invasive. The plant's roots may still travel deeper than the pot but if the pot is at least 12" deep, they are unable to spread to the sides.
