Forcing Bulbs

| We live in Sudbury, Ontario, zone 3. As suggested by Ken Beattie on Get Growing (a Canadian call in show), we decided to pot some bulbs in containers and stored them in the basement in the dark. Well, they weren't suppose to start budding till probably around February. Well, guess what? I went downstairs to get something else and noticed that almost all the containers have something budding, i.e., muscaries, tulips, daffodils, and other things. I don't know what to do? Does that mean that I'll have to take them out of the dark and put them in light? Do I take them out and put them in plastic bags and freeze them? Or is this what's suppose to happen? I'm baffled. I thought this wasn't suppose to happen till February. I'm not disappointed and I'm just not sure what to do. HELP. |

| It was probably too warm for them. I would take them out and enjoy them! |

Yes, too warm in the basement. Freeze them and you'll be left with a bag of mushy bulbs.
Since they are growing you need to get them into the light. By putting them in your coolest, but brightest lit room, you can slow the growth somewhat-the cooler the temp the longer they will take to grow and flower. |
