I had done some serious "googling" before I ran across this "modification", "improvement", whatever you want to label it, I had never seen this type of system. Whether you view it as a new system, or an improvement/modification of the DIY SWC, it definitely popped out of Larry's brain!

There are plenty of references to troughs for an SWC, or using rain gutters to grow things, but the design seems original to me. I was disturbed that I hadn't thought of it first! Such a simple solution to my problem. I didnt want to buy multiple float valves, I didnt want to spend alot on an AWS system from Earthbox, and I wasnt happy with running tubing from double container to double container. This cuts my container cost in half. The other advantage I see is adding liquid fertilizer or worm tea to the trough, fert boost to all buckets. Like my six year old says....easy, peezey, lemon squeezee...

Cant wait to get my troughs under way!

Thank You! Where this guy came up with the idea that i stole or copied some system is beyond me> Let me quote Bob Hyland one of the top guru's of sub irrigated planters about my system on his blog Inside urban green!
"Making sub-irrigated planter systems (SIPs) is definitely not rocket science but I continue to be amazed at the variations that creative minds come up with.

Larry Hall in Minnesota gets my vote for best SIP improvement idea of the year. Larry is a super-sipper. I have not tried his auto-irrigation rain gutter SIP system yet but his YouTube videos make it very clear about how to make it and clearly demonstrate the productive results he gets. Very cool! See all of his YouTube videos "
