I am interested in getting some Airpots to use with my palms and tropicals. However in the mean time I wouldn't mind making a variation of my own. Has anyone attempted a DIY airpot style container with success?
i haven't tried, but you can approximate by doing the following: - use mesh pond pot , line with coir matting and put inside another pot. the roots will be getting thru coir (coconut fiber) and mash will provide air. - take a roll of bubble wrap with large bubbles, punch holes thru it on an interval. leave other bubbles intact. line the regular pot with bubble wrap. the deflated bubbles will not be packed tightly against the pot walls, since the remaining bubbles will prevent it. so there will be an air pocket created. fill with medium. - a little farfetched here... you can use plastic egg crates - punch holes in them, connect several, line the large pot with them, positioning cups to outside. duct tape should be able to hold it together. report if you get good roots :).
