Sempervivums in the NO area?

Is anyone in the NO area growing these successfully? I never could get them to live. For the while, I am in northern Alabama, zone 7B, and they do fine up here. Just a matter of curiosity, plus planning for a return!

Yes, my mother and I grew them in St. Bernard, southeast of New Orleans. They like full sun and rock garden conditions so would do well in containers there. I would say do not overwater. And I do beleive ours took some shade esp during the dead of summer.
