Lack of T.V. Gardening Shows

Where have all the good t.v. gardeneing shows gone?
Where are t.v. southern gardening shows?
Many folks new to gardening formerly relied upon advice from gardening shows. HGTV carries a show 1-2 times a month. A.P.T. in Birmingham carries "The Victory Garden", run for 31 years out of Mass. Would it be rational for a southerner to follow advice from a Zone 4/5 Massachusetts gardener?
Good southern gardening shows should include ornamental as well as vegetable and fruits, and propagation too.

RE: Lack of T.V. Gardening Shows

I was just commenting to my husband that they should remove the G out of HGTV because there are hardly any gardening shows on anymore. At least not like there was several years ago. I really enjoy Paul James but to my knowledge he is on only twice on the weekend. He is one of the only shows that are suited to the home gardener. There use to be Rebecca's Garden, and my favorites were Gardener's Diary and Gardener's Journal, none of these shows are currently on. Most of the shows that I have seen are Landscape type shows for people with a big budget. Nothing really suited to the how to's of plant growing. Your right, other than Victory Gardening I can't think of any other shows! It would be nice to have something especially for the southern gardener.

RE: Lack of T.V. Gardening Shows

KittyMommy,
Each state may broadcast locally produced PBS shows from it’s own stations, while at the same time will broadcast shows produced by both other PBS stations and/or the national PBS affiliate. Shows broadcast by the ‘Alabama Public Television’ (APT) station close at hand here where I live are generated out of their Birmingham office. To find the PBS station in your area, go to:

http://www.pbs.org/stationfinder/index.html

APT responded that they are interested in producing a garden show. Should you wish to contact your local PBS affiliate, perhaps you want to copy APT too.

RE: Lack of T.V. Gardening Shows

Baton Rouge has a local station that has gardening shows on Saturday mornings.

kittymommy, I also like Paul James a lot. He is geared to regular gardeners like us. I remember when you could find gardening shows all over TV (and I'm only 30) but it seems these days they can't be found. I'm afraid that regular gardeners, like folks here, are the minority these days.
