Need a topsoil source

Posted by pieohmy (My Page) on

I am looking for a source for topsoil in the Southeast Louisiana area. I would like to able to pick it up myself in my truck. If anyone knows of a source for mulch, compost or manure in this area that information would be great also. I am willing to drive to the McComb area, Biloxi area, and Baton Rouge area (and anywhere in between).

RE: Need a topsoil source

To answer my own question and help anyone else that may be searching, I found a great source. Clegg's has topsoil (very dark and nice looking), mulch, compost, river silt, and sand that can be bought by the yard. 1 yard of topsoil was around $32. The topsoil was much nicer than what I've always bought by the bag.

Pie, don't know about Clegg's mix, but some mixes contain fly ash, which is basically powdered charcoal, to make them look black. It's strictly cosmetic and does nothing to improve the soil.

Try Natural Resources Recovery out of Baton Rouge--very good soil with compost mixed in. Laughing Buddha Nursery in New Orleans also sells their soil if they are closer to you. Good stuff!

RE: Need to get rid of dirt from excavation

I will have a great deal of dirt available in about one week after excavation for a pool is complete. Does anyone know of someone needing large amount of dirt with the ability to haul it off my property or the best place to get rid of it. Located in Baton Rouge, LA.
