| I live in s/e Ms. about 60 miles north of New Orleans and would like suggestions on a good solid yellow flowering magnolia for this area. All of the ones I run across are more suited for lands north of lower Mississippi.
Thanks Mike |

| There is a magnolia with the common name banana shrub, I believe. It smells sublime. It is a small tree/large shrub. I grew it in N.O. and I believe it would grow fine in your area. |

| Have that one and I do like the tree, smells great, but the flowers are very small. What I would like is something more of a Japanese magnolia size or larger. |

| Actually, the Banana Shrub is a type of Michelia, rather than a Magnolia. That said, there are all sorts of Michelias, some with decent-sized blooms (not Magnolia big, but not tiny like Banana Shrub) and one may be close to what you're looking for. I don't remember any yellows, but do seem to remember cremes. They are not hardy farther north, but should do well where you are. |
