Have any of you tried Liianthus? If so, how did it do for you? Is it perinnial in our area (I live in Central MS)?

RE: Lisianthus

I tried 'em when they first caught my attention quite a few years ago, and they didn't do well at all. Since then I have found that a number of plants I couldn't grow, or at least grow well, in the ground have done much better in large containers. My first idea was that things that need more winter chill than we get might do better in them since they would be colder without the insulating value of the soil, and that's been true at least to some extent. However, I also found that a lot of things do better with the extra drainage they get in pots. I've been told, and my observations tend to confirm, that plants with gray foliage need better drainage than they usually get in the ground here, and will do better in pots. (lisianthus being of gray foliage) Also, I get the big pots with reservoirs so our three-weeks-of-drought, three-days-of-deluge, gets evened out. A lot of things do much better in those big pots. Wish I had more. Plan on trying lisianthus again if I can find room. Of course, I live close to the coast, and central MS may be somewhat better, or worse--

RE: Lisianthus

Hi:
I tried Lisianthus twice, and it croaked both times. My soil has a lot of clay, and maybe that was the problem.
