 o
Lily question...

Hope everyone is doing well. I've been ready for spring and planting my seeds for annuals at the first sight of hummingbirds! Nights have to get a bit warmer.
My question now.... We have a really large lily, flowers are light mauve- pink, slightly fragrant, come in groups of about dozen, some say they're a type of a Crinum lily, some call them 12 Apostles or 12 Disciples Lily. Leaves are soft therefore droopy. I think it deserves the name of it's own, if it doesn't have one.
Anyone has any idea? I'll post the picture once it blooms, usually beginning of May.

thanks,
Bea

I love crinums. I think I have about 8 or so varities around the garden. But I'm not familiar with 12 apostles. Does it look like the photo in the below link?

Some of the other crinums can be found at http://www.crinum.us and http://www.bulbsociety.org/GALLERY_OF_THE_WORLDS_BULBS/GRAPHICS/Crinum/Crinumlist.shtml
Good luck

Here is a link that might be useful: 12 Apostles?

RE: Lily question...

Hey ya'll hope all is well.
Granieb, if your lillies are the same as the
ones in the picture of the link danbo listed
I have them as well. The New Orleans botanical
gardens have them listed as crinum. I have shared
them with folks all over the country as the small
bulbs are easy to ship. The ones I have came from
my granny's yard years ago. I hope to share some
with my grandchildren when they have places of
their own. Until then I divide them when they get
too big for the area I have them in.
Have a wonderful day.

Brenda
