Citrus leaves very pale yellow

My La. Sweet Orange tree that I planted this past fall is full of new blooms, but the leaves are a sickly yellow color. I just put down spikes and wonder what else I can do. The soil where it is planted is heavy and horrid. I had to amend it just to plant the poor thing so it wouldn't die on contact. Any recommendations or ideas are appeciated.
