Festival des Fleurs--April 2 & 3 9am---5pm

Just got home a bit ago from helping with the garden club show for part of this, and if you're within traveling distance of Lafayette I really think you'd enjoy a visit. Only about half the venders are there so far, but there are already a lot of great plants available. The garden club show has a number of more unusual plants as well as the things you'd expect that most of us grow. Nice display of orchids. The Bonsai Society hadn't begun to arrive yet but they will have a large display. Stunning hibiscus. I think people have asked on here about places to buy various gingers, and I see GingerWood Nursery has a space reserved. The Master Gardeners will have lots of vegetables and herbs as well as ornamentals. Good place to get tomatoes. There'll be other gardening supplies and equipment too--not lawnmowers and noisy stuff like we had a few years and couldn't talk over! I love just walking around and soaking up the atmosphere. Oh--Bill Fontenot's native plant nursery is always there. And you can get $2 off your admission with the ad in the Advertiser. Y'all come!

Mostly to move this down, but also 'cause I'm curious--did anyone on here go? I got some moderately negative feed-back and wondered how others felt. Seems like shows like this have good years and not so good years. If you went and weren't happy about it, what would you like to see next year?

Hi, I went to the show. I thought the show was better last year. Perhaps that was because it was my first time attending and I was just excited. I do think that the show needs more vendors and more unusual plants. I overheard a few people looking for unusual plants. Most of the plants there were somewhat common. I bought a pink firespike and a cajun hibiscus. So I think more variety could help. I will go back next year for sure!

It seems to me the quality kinda goes up and down--for a little while it seemed like it was going to collapse, but then it improved a lot. They keep raising the booth prices and that doesn't help get people with rare things. There were more conflicts with other similar shows this year too, but I don't know how much difference that made. I know at least one vendor who said she probably won't be back next year 'cause she wasn't making money at the current price and it's going up again next year. We used to do a group booth, and maybe we can get something like that going again.

I went and bought a lot! I found a great selection of hard to find plants at several booths, Fontenot's and especially the Master Gardeners booth in particular. I think I paid for their booth alone. lol.

Check outh this weekend "Blooming on the Bayou" in Breaux Bridge, La. It is a new festival but they have been spending a lot of efort promoting it. I saw them on the Lake Charles TV station this morning. It will be from 10-4 on Saturday. They said that they will have a lot of unique things. It will be on the Bayou Banks under some huge Oak Trees. I can't wait1 There is also a new festival in Washington on May 30th. It is a gardening, birding and Antique car show. Also the Herb Fest on May the 7th.
