What shrub should I choose?

have a spot next to the driveway, and about 6' from the street, that needs something to camoflage a telephone pole and fire hydrant (hydrant is on the neighbor's property). thought about putting a crepe myrtle there, since it would grow up and not out (and present a car scrape scenario later). any suggestions?

Crape myrtles have large and very hard root systems. They are crushing the concrete in my driveway and my next door neighbor's also. How about a native like a Silver Bell or a Pendulum Yaubon Holly. A Little Girl Magnolia, Little Gem or even a Star Magnolia would also look nice and not spread.
