Check with your extention agencies and your local nurseries. It is a different ball game here. You will find there are many different plants you can and cannot grow here.

LSU cooperative extension, county agent in New Orleans and even the local PBS station are great sources. There is also a really loyal gardening culture in NO.

I moved to N.O. from the Cascades of Oregon 35years ago. Have a cousin in AK. You will absolutely love gardening here. You can grow something every month of the year! LSU ag center website is a great source of information. There are so many people into gardening down here that support will be no problem. The cultural adjustment is one of the biggest adjustments. You will love it, except for the horrendous heat.

Hey greenjuice,
You can get gardening books at the local library. Lot's on gardening in the deep south with all the humidity. Let us
know when you get here. We love to share. Will you have
an established garden or a clean slate? You'll love
the food here as well. And festivals every weekend.
Lots to do and see. There's a garden show at the
New Orleans botanical garden, I think it's in October.
I posted a link for you. Happy gardening.
Brenda
