sugar snap peas

We reciently ate sugar snap peas as a side order at Capital City Grill in BR --loved them.
Can they be grown in the Baton Rouge heat, or is it a fall crop. What var. are recommended?

| I'm growing them right now here in Baton Rouge. Start them in Feb or so. Use the treated seeds that germinate better. They start producing a little over a month after planting and will continue until it gets really warm (you know, in May :-)) You can pick the pea pods early if you want to eat them pods and all, or wait til the peas get plump and eat 'em that way! I am growing carrots too, and last weekend we had homegrown peas and carrots...yummy! |

| Package just says "sugar snap peas". Got them at Naylor's on Harrell's Ferry --they have the best seeds and veggies in the area, IMHO. Picked a peck of peas yesterday (ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration :-) ) and we had fresh peas and carrots and new potatoes for dinner! Excellent! |

| I plant the sugar snap pole beans early autumn here in 8b and they just go on and on. No pests. Our vines just pooped out and we got kentucky wonder pole beans up 2 inches now. This is late, but we had our trellises blown down by hurricane ivan last autumn, and had to purchase and put up a stronger system. |
