South Louisiana Blueberries

Anyone growing blueberries in the ground
in South Louisiana? I know the Ph is not
optimal, but may give it a try. Have a few in
containers now.

You can grow them inground here. You need to adjust your Ph and give them plenty of mulch. They recommend you remove the blooms the first year to allow the plant to establish. Also, you need a couple different varieties for pollination. My 2 plants are 3 years old and are doing good. Good luck.

I have a self pollinator in a pot. It's still too early to tell how prolific it will be but it has lots of still green blueberries. Fingers crossed!

    ok
i grow a lot of fruit trees
    but know nothing about blueberries.
i am in kenner, and its all river-sand.
i added compost when i planted it, and unfortunately, did not plant in full sun.
it gets a about 5-6 hours though.

after i added a lot of compost around it, and fed it compost tea
it started blooming and sending out 1 shoot to reach for the sun.
i had bought it at home depot last year, and dont remember the name.

there is actually 1 berry on it now.
there were 4-5 more, but something must have eaten them, or they just dropped.
so, does that mean it is self-fertile ?

i bought another one this year "Sunshine Blue".....

semi-dwarf, versatile evergreen blueberry features showy hot pink flowers that fade to white in spring, yielding large crops of delicious berries. Sunshine Blue tolerates higher pH soils better than many other blueberries and it is self-pollinizing. The low chilling requirement of 150 hours makes it suitable for Southern California, but we find it is surprisingly cold-hardy and a wonderful addition to patios and gardens in the Pacific Northwest.

it is supposedly "mid to late season"

the one i had is in the ground,
the one i just bought (sunshine blue) is in a pot for now.
(should i plant it near the other ?)

    any suggestions with these ?

Since Sunshine Blue is a dwarf, I would plant
It in a larger container about 10 gallons would do.
Put half pine bark fined and half peat moss.
Water with rain water if possible. If not add vinegar
to your tapwater to bring Ph down to 5. The plant in the
ground should be well mulched with pinebark. If
Ph is greater than 5.5 you should add sulfur.

    great thanks
only question is, can i leave it in the 1 gallon container while its small,
or do i need to repot now ?
i just took it out of a container that was about 1/2 gallon.
the roots were somewhat bound, but not bad
i wanted to put it in a 3-5 gallon, but didnt have anything around
