| Are there any native populations of Sabal minor in the Mississippi/Louisiana area? Particularly in the northern area's of both states? I know there are native ecotypes of S. minor around Warren, Arkansas.
Thanks, Zach |

Hi Zach: Yes there are native populations of sabal minor in Northern La. as well. In the delta they form large colonies, and are quite a pest in pastures. Here where I live in the Pine hills, they are for the most part confined to areas around stream beds, and rivers. However, there is a large one in my parents yard that was just a volunteer. It makes a large number of seeds each year. Dr. Clair A. Brown in Wildflowers of Louisiana states" Abundant and widely distributed from the dry hills of North La. to the cypress swamps of the alluvial floodplains, where it develops a trunk. This form has been named s.louisiana." Hope this helps! Mari |
