I used to live in st bernard parish. now i live in north ms. i know just a little about bouganvilla. it needs sun, it does not like a lot of water, and it likes to be pot bound. so if you bought it and transplanted it maybe it's just kind of in shock. don't overwater it. often if you prune something back a bit it will stimulate it to grow. overfertilizing can hurt a plant too. not sure how bad it is, but I would try to leave it alone a bit. they grow like crazy in the tropics with very little care.

I've never raised them but I sent your question to a friend who has several beautiful ones and this is what he wrote back: Many times when you buy those beautiful specimens they are fresh from a greenhouse where they were kept in prime conditions. When you move them to another location they can go into a little shock and drop those beautiful blooms and some leaves. I doubt it will die unless you quit watering it. It just may not look as pretty as the day it was purchased. Feed it a "bloom boost" fertilizer every other week and it should spring back. In winter it should be protected from the cold.

thank you so much louisianagal and vancleaveterry for your info. i will try what yall suggested. so far it is doing ok. i also have another one with lighter colored like varigated leaves i bought at the same time, and it's doing well. it's trying to make it's cute little blooms. i think i'll try that bloom boost on it. i hope i can keep them for a long time. i love bougainvillias. again, thank yall so much!
