Probably easier to just spread a granular insecticide.

Do squirrels, possums, racoons and the like visit the yard? If so, fleas can be a problem. Even deer can have ticks and fleas that hitch a ride to the yard.

My dad used to cut elderberry bushes and put them around in the yard and under the house. We didn't have animals either and still had fleas sometimes. He had them in the house at one time and he put some of the elderberry limbs in a corner in each room. Either the elderberry bushes got rid of them or they just left.

Penny royal works great for keeping fleas away, but not sure about the ticks. I'm trying to do more organic gardening, so I am looking forward to hearing more responses. Have you ever tried spraying orange oil? I know it keeps the fire ants away.
