Sunflowers

I planted 4 sunflowers just for fun when I planted my veggies and the first one opened it's flower today. Three of them are over 6 feet tall, the fourth one is catching up. There are lots of black bugs just hanging on the stems and when I try to knock them off they fly. Don't know what they are. Also on some of them the edges of the leaves are brown and crisp. I hope I don't lose them, I already lost all my tomato plants for this year (bacterial wilt, but they were in a raised bed on the other side of the garden).

Any idea why the leaves would be doing that? They look a little wilted on one plant, the others are ok (so far).
