Could be the Angel Trumpet. Sorry to say that plant has gotten a very bad reputation in the New Orleans area lately as teenagers are making tea from the flowers and almost dying from it. Terrible hallucinations--one boy jumped off the roof and another bit his arm to pieces because he thought his arm was a hamburger. Pretty as it is, it is also dangerous when used experimentally by teens.

Sounds like either a Datura or Brugmansia. Both are called Angel Trumpet, and both are poisonous, as live_oak_lady says.

Datura usually has dark green leaves, while a Brugmansia is often a paler green. The flowers of both are huge, like 6" long, and smell divine after dark.

I've seen Brugmansia often limbed up into a tree shape, with its flowers hanging downward, very pretty.

Nope not a brug or datura. I have both and I'm sure its not of them. The plant I'm seeing is like a cane or bamboo in that it is a long straight stick (it is not cane or boo) and has a trumpet shaped flower at it tip. The plant is very tall, way taller than the eaves of the house. Oh and this is an old garden well into maturity.

Morning Glory Tree. It is a relative of the tropical vine. After I planted mine I noticed this house. From the look of that yard those have been in the ground for a decade or more.

I just woke up and the first thing I thought was "I wonder if it's an easter lilly on steroids"
