| Hello Folks, here's my dilemma. After living in the same place for 15 years I've collected a number of plants. Lots of perennials, bulbs, iris's, roses, etc. You get the picture...some have special meaning and I want to take 'some' with me when I move. I have to move in the middle of November to the 'southern' end of my county.I'd like to start digging up some of the plants now. I'm moving to a permament spot, that is just now being 'cleared'. I'm saving seed from plants that just cant be moved, such as 4 o'clocks(I have a large collection of these!)What could be moved now(in the heat of the summer!?)Or what could I dig up and keep in a 'holding pattern'so I dont have to do all that digging and transporting at the last moment? Its a BIG move. What about digging up larger size shrubs? Prune them back and wait till the last moment? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks, Wild |

| To my knowledge this just isn't the right time of the year. Could you instead get some labor reserved for October? Teenagers committed to help you do it all under your supervision in a few short weeks come fall? Rent a trailor and make the move in one weekend? I suppose you could root prune some bushes and small trees at this time. Perhaps cut/trench a ring around each a third of the way around. Then wait a month and do another third... etc. Terry |
