Received this posting on the Louisiana Native Plant Society list. Even though the article is on Texas, thought it may be of interest.

Heard about the story on Humnet.

My suburban lot attracts butterflies, birds, frogs, lizards, raccoons, and at least 6 different species of hummingbirds (many have been banded). And not one of my neighbors would ever have a reason to complain. Some people are just over the top.

I love attracting most kinds of wildlife into my yard too, but I draw the line at snakes and racoons. Where I live, the yards around mine could become overgrown if I didn't complain once in awhile, so I do. It just looks so much nicer to see plants and flowers, even if they're everywhere in a yard, than just plain weeds.
