I tried it a couple times (different cultivars) and found they did fairly well the first year, struggled the second year, and disappeared the third or so. I have decided to try to grow only the plants that like it here, and not the ones that make me feel I'm torturing them to a slow and painful death. There might be other varieties that would be happier, but I don't think I'll look. I'll grow gingers and aroids and La.irises and so many others that like heat and humidity! And try not to sob for the things like Monarda I'd like to grow for the hummers. Salvias, they love salvias, and so do I.

We transplanted some Bee Balm from pots into a bed last fall and were thrilled with a wonderful show this spring. The picture (link) below was taken about 6 wks ago when they were in full bloom. We staked the planting to prevent the leggy ones from falling over. After they bloomed we cut them back about 50% and and they are now showing signs of new growth along with more flowers. This is our first year to grow these on the north shore and we hope that they will be a permanent guest in our garden. I think you should give them a try since you are in a slightly warmer zone.
