Sawdust/compost in NW MS?

| I'm looking for some sawdust for my compost pile in NW MS. Anyone know where I can get truckload for free? I know the city shreds yard waste, but I don't know what they do with it.
Any suggestions? I'm in Batesville. |

| You have any large sawmills (IP / Georgia-Pacific) in your area? They may be happy for you to take it off their hands. |

| I am calling the City to find out what they do with all the shredded limbs. I hope they don't go in the landfill. :( |

| I would also consider checking if you have a furniture maker locally. Or anyone who works with hard wood rather than pine. Seems though the hard wood sawdust and shavings take longer to compost. They're less acid. |

| Look for a small sawmill, or band mill. The owners around here are happy for you to take truck loads of saw dust. There are quite a few around here locally, both pine and hard wood. |

| There are probably several cotton gins near you... I've used gin trash with good results in my compost piles. I can get it free about five miles down the road, but it costs me $15 to get my trailer loaded with a loader. I put 2' sideplanks on a 16' trailer and figure I'm hauling nearly 12 yards. Try to get the oldest looking stuff, as it will decompose faster. |

| There is a gin on Hwy 51 south of Coldwater. It's in a little town, but my geography memory won't let me remember which one... it's not very far south of Coldwater, and it's right on 51, on the east side, and it's IN town. I got some cotton mulch a couple of years ago, and didn't let it compost long enough, and I'm still fighting weeds! It's really good stuff (if you let it compost awhile). |
