Alot of people recomend moth balls to keep critters away from cats, snakes,Dogs and so on but, will they do any harm to the plants? I have never used a moth ball but I have smelled them. Are they toxic?

RE: Moth Balls

Did a search on Google for 'moth ball ingredients' and got this:
______________________
Usually the commercial type mothballs are made of either naphthalene or para dichlorobenzene. Both these substances are toxic to moths that can destroy clothes kept
in closed places. Besides that they can sublimate, that is they go directly from the solid state to the gas state. As gas they can go inside clothes and fill the place where they stand, killing the moths if they are there.
Be careful when using any kind of moth balls, they are also toxic to humans and pets.
Mostly never use in children closets or keep them in places where a child can find, play or even put in the mouth. Moth balls are poison!

RE: Moth Balls

I have been having problems with snakes attacking budgies in my aviary and read somewhere mothballs would discourage them. Since using them I've had no snake problems (except when I forgot to renew them and one came for his 'take away'). My neighbour has had problems with a street cat fouling his porch and since using the mothballs the cat has also desisted. I place mine behind plant pots and in bits of plastic tubing - the smell emanates but my dog and other animals can't get to them.
