Hello from Florida

Hi, I'm in the Ft Lauderdale area of Florida and would like to try growing Louisiana Irises. I understand that they should be planted next month and would like to order some, but can't seem to find too many outlets on-line. I found one place that wanted a $75 minimum order, but I'm new at this and only wanted to buy a few to test out first.

Can someone please give me some direction and recommend some websites I can look at?

On the Louisiana Iris Society page, I found a good listing of growers. This is so exciting. If I get stuck with any problems, I'll be back *smile*.

RE: Hello from Florida

You might like to know, or maybe you do already, that one Louisiana iris species is native to Florida and if I remember right, (and I often don't!) is not found in Louisiana. That's I. hexagona. I think there should be a grower or two in Florida. Kinda funny huh? You will enjoy them! When I moved here from Nebraska, where I grew a lot of bearded irises, I was told they wouldn't do well here, but 'you'll naver miss them, the Louisianas are so lovely.' And they are! (But I do miss especially the dwarf bearded irises sometimes.)
