September Vegetables

Looking to start a small garden in the back yard to take up some free time. I've looked around the web for a list of vegetables that I could start in September, but I seem to keep getting different list and not sure which is correct. So I figured I'd ask from professionals. Any suggestions on what I should start? Preferably, some that do not take too much maintenance. I will be able to tend to it everyday, but my thumb is not the greenest, as far as I know. Thanks in advance.

Ps. Not really looking for a flower garden, looking to plant something that I can harvest or actually gain something from.

Lots of choices. Depends on what you like. Have you taken a look at the LSU veggie planting guide?

I plan on sowing bush beans next week followed by lettuce, arugula, dill, cilantro, and Swiss chard transplants in the weeks to come.

Here is a link that might be useful: south Louisiana veggie planting guide
