Live Oak Lady Question

Hi,
I live in Algiers and I was wondering if you have any idea how old the Live Oaks are on the neutral ground of Mac Arthur Blvd.

I would like to put a couple LO on my property and I'm trying to get an idea of how quickly they grow.
I need some shade!!!!

Thanks, Annie

RE: Live Oak Lady Question

Don't know about the ones there, but I have one I planted as a stick 15 years ago that now shades my entire yard. Live oaks need lots of water---the ones by the canals, bayous and rivers grow quicker. Or, you can give one in your own yard lots of water.
Live oaks grow quicker in some areas because of the environment and the water availability. Example: the ones on the bayous in City Park. And, Seven Sisters near Lake Pontchartrain that now has a waistline of 38 feet.
You can see it at www.louisianagardenclubs.org/pages/oak.htm
