| I live south of Shreveport and want to plant some fruit trees. I already have figs, a plum and a plumcot. I'm thinking of apples or pears...but I'm open to suggestions. What would work best for my area? Thanks in advance! |

| Thanks! That brings on another question. I just googled peach trees in La and a story came up about peach trees in Ruston dying because of oak root rot. Anyone know about this? I have oak trees on one side of my yard, can I put fruit trees on the other side? |

| I'm a newbie and I need help. We just moved to N. E. Louisiana from Maryland this June. We aren't farmers or gardeners (yet). Our property hasn't been farmed in fifty years. We have an old pear tree that we meant to cut down but didn't get around to. Half of the limbs are dead. The main trunk and one of the secondary trunks are completely hollow. It is covered in suckers that are all twisted into the main branches. The last storm knocked down numerous dead limbs. It definitely looked to be on it's last leg. But boy, it put out huge amounts of big delicious pears this fall. How do we save it or can we graft it? We also have a younger pear tree on the property that put out a huge amount of tiny inedible pears. Thanks |

Hello ohdefi, I would attempt to root some cuttings and also grow from seed. If cuttings don't take then, graft to seedlings. Haven't tried personally but, this would be my first try. The inedible pears may be for cooking? Post picks and maybe someone can ID. Pattie |
