Looking for a mentor

Looking for someone in the Beauregard Parish area that might be willing to mentor a beginner. I just really got into gardening and I will be the first to admit, I dont know a lot but I am hooked. I am looking for someone that might be willing to share their experience with what works in this area and things like that. My husband built me a 10x12 greenhouse back in February that I just adore. I still have minor adjustments to do in there because it sure does get hot but that will come in time. Anyway, I just thought I would post this message and see if anyone else was interested in sharing.
Thanks in advance

| Hi Kim, great start with the greenhouse! I'm a little envious. I use a cold frame in late winter to house my tomato and pepper seedlings. What are you interests? Do you want to grow food, herbs, flowers to attract butterflies and birds? What kind of canvas are you working with? Do you have shrubs and trees in your yard now? I guess basically tell us a little more. Btw, I'm in Baton Rouge, so not that far from you. |

| At this point I am strictly greenhouse working. I am not able to plant in my yard til my husband does something with his dang ducks and turkey. lol. I did herbs last year in containers that did really well. I also seeded everything for my garden and it was very productive. I am not a real flower person. I guess I am more a foliage person. But so far, I seem to be killing more than growing, if you know what I mean. |

Hey Kim, Welcome to the boards. I'm pretty far away near NOLA but will offer any assistance I can. I've been gardening in some fashion since I was about 8. I used to watch my grand parents in their small back yard and got hooked. Then I won a shrimp plant at a church fair. I planted it in front of a play house my Dad made for me. Then in high school I had a few "air plants" on my windowsill followed by a few spider plants. In the 80's house plants were all the rage and I would go to one of the local nurseries with my grand mother and aunt. We would buy and swap cuttings and have more for less. I now have a small city plot of my own, which is filled to the max. My husband and I are in the process of purchasing 4.5 acres in Mississippi. A clean slate with lots of potential. A place where I'm free to dream big. Enjoy your greenhouse and post any questions you might have. We'll be willing to help if we can or point you in the right direction. Brenda |
