I have some fava beans and I think now is the time to plant. I don't know if they vine or not. Any tips for planting fava beans in the New Orleans area.

RE: fava beans

Favas are cool weather beans. You would be better off to wait until fall to plant them and grow them through the winter. They need 2 1/2 to 3 months of cool (60-65 degrees) growing weather.

They do best with some support. It's easier to plant them in blocks and then put stakes around the block. Tie the whole lot together with twine starting at 18 inches above ground and work it up as the plants grow.
