Ground Cover for Banks

The bank on the east side of our yard was so shaded by pine trees that nothing would grow so we covered it with pine straw. After Katrina, no more pine trees; no more pine straw. What do you recommend for a very sunny rather steep bank. With all of the pine straw, it must be very acidic.

RE: Ground Cover for Banks

There is an Indian mound on the Louisiana state capital grounds and the sides are fairly steep. I noticed yesterday that Asian Jasmine is growing on and covering the sides, I guess protecting it from erosion. I would not recommend planting this plant anywhere else because it is fairly invasive, but it might work for you there. I don't think it's very picky about where it grows or soil type.
