My Mexican Sage is Dying!

| My husband and I planted several Mexican Sage plants in our butterfly/hummingbird garden. We had previously grown them in New Orleans with great success. They were very hardy, with beautiful flowers, and very attractive to hummingbirds. We live in Baton Rouge now, and they don't seem to be thriving...they did well this spring, and most of the summer, but now they are actually dropping dead at an alarming rate! There are some new shoots coming up at the bottom, but the larger stalks are shriveling up. We water them on a regular basis (usually every other day or 2). Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

| Sage is a tough plant and think about Mexico whence it got its name. You may actually be overwatering it. Especially if it is not getting real good drainage. Also it needs full sun. So I would try cutting it back to the good shoots, see if you can improve the drainage like maybe you have too much mulch or something. I would only water every week or two, and only if it doesn't rain, I think an inch a week is a good rain. |
