Pruning Bougainvillea

| I have a couple of large Bougainvilleas that I would like to prune to make it easier to store over winter. This would also give me an opportunity to shape them better in the spring. Is now the time to prune them? How much can I prune and do I need to leave any leaves?

| The first couple of years we cut it back to ground level and mulched heavily over the roots for winter. Now that it is a mature plant, we cut it back by about 50% each winter and still mulch the roots heavily. |
