Advice on Pink Grapefruit Tree

Posted by kamv LA Zone 8 (My Page) on

Was given a pink grapefruit tree that is appr. 2-3 feet tall, and it already has 4 grapefruit on it. So exciting. Anyway, some of the leaves have some yellow on them and I am just trying to figure out if there is a problem. Also I am not sure how often to water it or exactly how to maintain it. Any advice would be so much appreciated. I am in Southwest Louisiana (Beauregard Parish), if that helps.
Thanks in advance
Kim

RE: Advice on Pink Grapefruit Tree

yellow leaves may simplyt mean trauma from being transplanted. Citrus is very finicky about over watering, be careful where you plant and know that a hard freeze can kill these yummy trees so put in a protected place. Once established they are pretty tough. After the fruit is picked it is the only time to trim and shape your tree, as they bloom right after harvest. They also produce on new growth, so at least trim the ends each spring.

My trees are at the breaking point with tons of fruit in shades of green and yellow and new growth already popping out.

Enjoy
