Where to buy large Japanese Magonlias

Posted by bobgordon LA (My Page) on

Hi,

I am trying to replace a Japanese Magnolia tree that was lost to the storm. Anyone know where I can buy large trees in the New Orleans area. I heard there was a place on the Northshore but I can't find any info on this place.

Your help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Bob

I was at Banting Nursery on the westbank last week and saw they had several varieties of Japanese Maples to choose from. Their address is 3425 River Rd, right by the Huey P. Long Bridge. Their number is 436-4343.

On the northshore in Lacombe there is Eric's Nursery (or something with Eric's at the beginning). I haven't been there yet but it looks large and I heard that Eric used to be an owner in another important nursery in the area.

Perino's on Veterans (3100 Vets by Causeway, 834-7888) is also likely to have some Japanese Maples. But their prices are usually a lot higher than over at Banting's.

Here in the Houma area, I've seen them at Lowe's before.

Nicole at Plants-n-More in Abita Springs 985-871-0602 should be able to get them for you. I just had her special order us some large live oaks at a very reasonable price! Let me know if I can help you further.

Bob:
In the Folsom La. phone directory look up Ponderosia Tree Farm Nursery. In the white pages look up Jim Loyd. He has passed on but his wife Maxine and family run his tree farm. They have some large ones that you pick out in the field. You will have to come back a week or so later and pick it up after it is balled for you. EXCELLENT prices compared to nursery stock.
Let me know if you go as this a wonderful outing from N.O.
