I have Amaryllis growing in the ground. When and how can I divide the plants?

RE: Amaryllis

According to folks at the LSU AgCenter, the best time to divide them is in January or February when the bulbs have stored the greatest amount of nourishment. I have followed this advice in the past with better success for Spring blooming than when I divided them in the Fall.

On the other hand I have also discovered that most Amarylis tend to bloom more and with larger flowers if allowed to bunch and crowd one another. I tend to leave the large bulbs in a bunch right where they are taking only the small new bulbs for replanting. Bulbs less than 1 1/2 inches in diameter may bloom in the Spring but often require a full year to grow to full size. Tiny bulblets may take two years but are worth the trouble.

I am new on this website. Do you have pictures of your Amaryllis blooms, and is it possible to add digital pictures on this website?
