Pinkeye Purple Hulls - did I buy the wrong kind?

I grew Pink Eye Purple Hulls many years ago. I recently came across some seed labeled as an "improved" PEPH called Top Pick. The "improvement" is that they hold the pods out from the plant, making them easier to pick. I bought them before I stopped to consider that maybe the flavor was affected by all that improvement.

Does anybody here grow these and know whether the flavor is the same as plain old Pinkeye Purplehulls? I don't want to waste the space on a sub par pea.

There are several varieties of Pink Eye Purple Hulls. I have not grown Top Pick. I have grown Quick Pick in this category. Major difference is compactness of plant and earliness. I have also grown the generic Pink Eye, CT Pinkeye, Pinkeye BVR and Texas Pink Eye. While ther are subtle differences in favor, The main and most notable differences are in the size and growth habit of the plant. Some have more built in resistance to diseases like cowpea mosaic virus.
