Beans, Peas & Legumes

I am thinking of starting beans now

I live in Texas. I am thinking of starting my beans now, should I start them now or wait until next month?

I don't want to start them too early, however by late may of last year the temps were in the 100's. I want to make sure that I start them early enough so they actually have a nice growing season before the heat kicks in. Last year it was 100's all summer long.

When should i start my beans, and should i take them outside in march or april?

Planning on growing calypso, and bianco di spagna, and contender.

It probably depends on what part of Texas you live in. There's a huge difference between the Rio Grande Valley and Dallas ;)

Is the danger of frost past? Is your soil warming up? Try checking with your local extension agent. Here's a link to a PDF document which, among other things, has a chart of frost free dates in Texas.

As I understand it, BEANS are opposits the PEAS. While peas like cold/cool weather, beans on the other hand love heat.

While peas can tolerate frost even freez, beans cannot.
Therefore, beans can grow if the soil and air temperatures are adequatly warm. I am in zone 8, In GA. I direct sow my beans in May. You may start then inside earlier.
