Dried beans produced in Canada include Navy beans, Great Notherns, Red Kidney, Small red, small pinks, Cranberry, Pinto which lead one to believe that most P. vulgaris will grow some where in Canada. Since you know the Cranberry will grow in your area, look for varieties with similar or shorter DTM.

One of your best resources might be the catalogue of Heritage Harvest Seed. This is a seed company based in Manitoba with an extraordinary selection of heirloom and open-pollinated bean varieties adapted to short growing seasons, including many that are excellent as dry beans.

As an aside for those who are interested, they will also ship to USA. I placed an order for several packets of unusual bean varieties (including Dollof, Flagg and Mr. Tung's) and I had no trouble receiving it through regular mail. I know of no seed company in USA with such an excellent range of beans.

Here in the PNW I find that I can grow longer season beans if I give them a head start by planting them in 3-1/2 peat pots two weeks before it is time to plant them outside. As soon as they sprout, they go into a hoophouse.
